J Jesus Guide Start here, go deeper, listen anytime

A complete welcome guide to Jesus, Christianity, and the Bible

Understand who Jesus is, what Christianity means, and how to keep going when you do not know where to begin.

This site is built as a guided path and an open library. Use it like a beginner course, a listening hub, or a deep reference shelf for history, Greek and Latin, Roman and Jewish context, Bible translations, books, videos, and courses.

Best first steps: read John, listen to John, compare translations, then add context.

Page map

Use the homepage in the right order.

The homepage works best when it is treated like a guided route instead of a catalog. Start with John, then use listening, context, and the deeper shelves only as needed.

1

Start here

Read John, listen while you read, and get one clear first picture of Jesus.

2

Build rhythm

Use the Bible in a Year path or the first 7 days to establish momentum.

3

Clarify context

Open reference when vocabulary, people, or places start to crowd the page.

4

Go deeper

Move into resources, poetry, and roadmap only when you want a larger shelf.

Daily Listening Path

Start listening to Scripture.

The Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz is a full 365-episode listening path through the Catholic Bible, with Scripture readings, short commentary, and prayer. It gives people something better to open when they would normally drift into social media.

Why it works

Each daily episode is short enough to replace a scrolling session, but substantial enough to build a real whole-Bible habit over time.

Use it

  1. Put the playlist or podcast where your social apps usually win.
  2. Listen while walking, driving, cleaning, or winding down.
  3. Keep a Bible nearby when a passage makes you want to slow down.
  4. If you miss days, resume from the next episode instead of quitting.

Know this

This is a Catholic reading plan using the RSV Second Catholic Edition and includes the deuterocanonical books, so it is especially useful for understanding Catholic Scripture practice.

Start Here

If you only do one thing, do this.

1

John first

John is the clearest first look at who Jesus is, what he said, and why his life matters.

2

Listen as you read

Hearing the Gospel out loud helps the story land, especially if you are new to Christian language.

3

Compare versions

Use one readable translation and one more literal translation to see nuance.

4

Add context

Learn the Jewish, Roman, Greek, and geographic world behind the text so the stories make sense.

The Way

Your first 7 days with John.

A simple path for meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John. Read one portion, listen along, answer one honest question, then keep going tomorrow.

Progress 0 of 7 days

After Week One

Keep the path clear, then widen it.

Once John has given you a first picture of Jesus, the next steps add practices, more Gospel reading, and a longer 90-day rhythm without forcing everything at once.

Days 8-14

Begin the practices

Scripture, prayer, rest, community, generosity, service, and witness. One practice at a time.

Days 15-28

Keep walking with Jesus

Move into Luke and the other Gospels so John becomes part of a fuller picture.

90 days

A fuller first journey

Gospels, Acts, Romans, Ephesians, whole-Bible foundations, and a simple rule of life.

Roadmap

A note on framing

This is meant to be broad, beginner-friendly, and honest.

The goal is not to force a narrow denomination, but to help a new person understand Jesus, the Bible, and Christianity clearly, with enough structure to explore, enough listening options to stay connected, and enough depth to keep learning.
